Document Sets were introduced in SharePoint 2010 and provide an alternative to folders for managing content. At this meeting we’ll compare and contrast the use of document sets and folders for typical business use cases. We'll also discuss some limitations of document sets and some things to be aware of when using document sets to manage content.
Who needs to attend?
Developers, SharePoint Administrators, IT Managers, and Business Analysts – anyone who can benefit from understanding better ways to track and manage connected documents.
Document Sets enable users to group multiple documents that support a single project or task into a single entity. All documents in a Document Set share metadata and the entire set can also be versioned.
Examples where Document Sets might be useful:
- RFP response: managing multiple documents like proposal (.docx), presentation (.pptx), estimates and pricing (.xlsx) which are part of the response to a RFP
- Product documentation: managing multiple documents like TDM/BDM brochure (.docx/.pdf), evaluation guides (.docx), various presentations (.pptx), feature comparison sheets (.xlsx) etc. which need to be created as part of product release
Lunch is provided, so please register to attend before Feb 10, 2012.
