DESCRIPTION:Sponsor: Computer Technology Solutions\nSpeaker: John Miller -
Microsoft Technology Solutions Professional: BI\nTopic: Achieving Busines
s Agility with PowerPivot and PowerView\n\nAchieving Business Agility with
PowerPivot and PowerView\nMany vendors promise to deliver self-service
“Agile” BI\, but few actually offer a holistic solution. The majority
of self-service BI offerings work great on an individual’s desktop\, but
things fall apart quickly when they attempt to share what was created wit
h colleagues (team level collaboration). The real gap is discovered when y
ou attempt to convert what an end user created (best practice) into a form
al BI solution. Because most of these self-service BI vendors lack a robus
t & mature server-side infrastructure\, they are woefully unprepared to su
pport an enterprise deployment. What you soon discover to be missing are k
ey “abilities” such as scalability\, availability\, manageability\, et
 c. needed to:\n• support 1000’s of end users\n• work with billions o
 f rows of data\n• provide 24x7x365 day uptime\n\nIn contrast\, Microsoft
enables you to perform self-service “Agile” BI using the friendly\, f
amiliar user interface of Excel using a free add-in called PowerPivot. Usi
ng PowerPivot\, business users can acquire and mash-up data themselves to
perform self-service BI. If they later wish to share those findings with c
olleagues\, PowerPivot spreadsheets can simply and easily be published to
SharePoint where your IT Dept is then able to manage and monitor what the
business has built. Assuming someone in the business just established a be
st practice\, your IT Dept can easily take what started in PowerPivot and
turn that into a formal BI solution and deploy it on MSFT’s market leadi
ng analytics engine SQL Server Analysis Services.\n\nPowerView affords a v
isually stunning approach to building reports off of data that you’ve ma
sh-up in PowerPivot. While most folks find Excel quite easy to use\, Power
View affords you a blend of simplicity and power for creating reports that
end users find extremely compelling. Built to be web-based\, model driven
\, point & click reporting tool\, PowerView literally enables anyone withi
n your organization to build and publish their own reports.\n\n

ill actively engage you\, entertain you\, and most of all stimulate you to
think about new ways of working. Come prepared to learn! Come with an ope
n mind! You will leave with some fundamentally new ideas\, a surge of ener
gy and of course a CSM certification along with 14 PDUs to keep up your PM
P certification and help prepare for the PMI-ACP.\n\nYour ScrumMaster Cert
ification is your first major step in the journey towards this adaptive an
d empirical form of work organization. It will familiarize you with all t
he elements of the Scrum framework. Your next step will be to gain the exp
erience necessary to become a Certified Scrum Professional (CSP)\n\nYour t
rainers have years of experience helping individuals\, teams\, and organiz
ations adopt Scrum so they will be able to answer your questions from a ri
ch experience base.\n\nTom Mellor is a Certified Scrum Trainer and past Ch
air of the Board of Directors of the Scrum Alliance. He started his Scrum
journey in 2004 while helping a very large Insurance company (a Fortune 50
company based in Bloomington\, IL) to get better at their product develop
ment using Agile principles and practices and Scrum. He has been the champ

DESCRIPTION:May Luncheon Highlights Region’s Top Woman\, Top Leader in E
conomic and Community Development\n\n\nPatsy Hazlewood\, Southeast Tenness
ee’s Regional Director for Economic and Community Development\, will be
the featured speaker at the Chattanooga Technology Council’s Lunch & Lea
rn Series on Wednesday\, May 16.\n\n \n\nThe luncheon takes place at 11:30
am at the EPB Offices\, 10 West M.L. King Boulevard\, 7th Floor Conferenc
e Room. It is free for CTC members\, $20 for non-members. To register\, go
  to www.ctcmay.eventbrite.com.\n\n \n\nSpeaking on High-Quality Jobs: Maki
ng Tennessee No. 1 in the Southeast\, Mrs. Hazlewood will update participa
nts on regional efforts to implement the Governor’s Jobs4TN Plan. In Jul
y 2011\, Governor Bill Haslam named Mrs. Hazlewood to one of nine top econ
omic development posts. As Regional Director\, she is the primary point-of
-contact for Southeast Tennessee companies seeking state assistance with e
xpansion or access to services.\n\n \n\nThis newly created position is par
t of the Governor’s Jobs4TN plan\, introduced in April of last year. The
plan focuses the efforts of Tennessee’s Department of Economic and Comm
unity Development (ECD) on strategic business clusters where the state has
a competitive advantage\; helping existing businesses to grow and expand\
; and adding resources and senior leadership to accomplish the long-standi
ng goal of recruiting new businesses and jobs to Tennessee. A key foundati
on of Jobs4TN is the decentralization of ECD into nine regions to better c
oordinate state\, regional and local resources.\n\n \n\nThe Southeast Tenn
essee Region\, of which Ms. Hazlewood oversees\, encompasses more than 617
 \,000 residents\, living in 10 counties (Hamilton\, Bledsoe\, Bradley\, Gr
 undy\, Marion\, McMinn\, Meigs\, Polk\, Rhea and Sequatchie).\n\n \n\nIn h
er role\, she leads new efforts and initiatives in the region\, supports e
xisting local economic development organizations\, and serves as an effect
ive conduit between the state and regional and local stakeholders. She als
o engages strategic partnerships that increase tech transfer from research
institutions\; support innovation at regional business accelerators\; gen
erate early state capital investment to support entrepreneurs\; and expand
workforce development efforts.\n\n \n\nPrior to this position\, Mrs. Hazl
ewood spent over 30 years in the telecommunications industry\, first with
BellSouth and later AT&T\, where she was assistant vice president for legi
slative and external affairs for Southeastern Tennessee. She is an organiz
er/director of CapitalMark Bank and Trust and a former board chair of the
Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce\, where she still serves on the board
. Her other boards include: The Enterprise Center\, United Way\, the Stad
ium Corporation\, Speech and Hearing Center (vice chair)\, and Community F
oundation (chair elect). In 2009\, she was the first woman to be elected p
resident of the Chattanooga Rotary Club in the organization’s 96-year hi
story. Recently\, she was named the 2012 Tennessee Woman of Distinction by
the American Lung Association in Tennessee.

DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Maury Nicely\, Attorney at Evans\, Harrison & Hackett
\n\nOne question that new and growing employers often encounter is "what e
mployment laws do I need to know about?" Truly\, it is critical for employ
ers to understand the laws that apply to them\, as well as what they need
to do to comply with those laws. Some employment laws only apply to compan
 ies with 15\, 20\, or even 100 employees\; however\, there are more than t
en employment-related laws that apply to even the smallest of employers\,
those with just one employee!\n\n"As Your Business Grows: Employment Law C
overage for Employers" is a one-hour training class designed to introduce
employers to the various federal and state laws that apply to them. This t
raining session will briefly detail each of the laws that apply as a compa
 ny grows from one employee to 2\, 5\, 8\, 15\, 20\, 50\, and ultimately\,
100 or more employees. This class is a good starting point for any employe
r wishing to better understand its employment-related obligations under fe
deral and Tennessee state law. In turn\, all other employment seminars wil
l build upon this introductory foundation. \n\nOver the past 15 years\, Ma
ury Nicely has represented business clients in the areas of labor and empl
oyment law and litigation. He provides ongoing training and legal advice f
or a wide range of employers\, from small start-up business to established
multinational businesses\, for the purpose of preventing legal problems i
n the workplace. he also represents clients in employment-related litigati
 on\, including discrimination\, retaliation\, contract\, wage-and-hour\, a
nd similar matters. Maury also advises clients on a broad range of issues
related to traditional labor law\, including union organizing campaigns\,
collective bargaining\, and the defense of claims filed with the National
Labor Relations Board. Currently with the law firm of Evans Harrison & Hac
kett\, PLLC\, Maury previously served as in-house labor and employment cou
nsel for Volkswagen Group of America at its new manufacturing facility in
Chattanooga. A graduate of Vanderbilt University and the University of Geo
rgia School of Law\, Maury is licensed to practice law in Tennessee and Ge
orgia.\n\nRSVP at the front desk of the BDC\nor by emailing terickson@chat

DESCRIPTION:When it comes to manufacturing\, Chattanoogans can boast that
our area has its fair share of jewels: Volkswagen\, Alstom\, Wacker\, to n
ame a few. Yet\, the many treasures that contribute to this region’s rep

 at\, when discovered\, shine just as brightly.\n\nOn Wednesday\, March 28\
, the Chattanooga Technology Council\, in partnership with the Chattanooga
Regional Manufacturers Association\, will feature Hidden Gems among Our M
anufacturing Treasures\, as part of the CTC Lunch & Learn Series. The lunc

ing on a national or global level. These unique treasures and their produc
ts will be unveiled at the luncheon\; however\, attendees will have an opp
ortunity to guess their identities\, when they register for the luncheon.
The first person to guess the most names and/or products will receive a pr
ize at the luncheon.\nHere are clues to the names\, manufacturing processe
s or products of our three hidden gems. Include your best guesses\, when y
ou register for the luncheon.\n\n•	Singer Kelly Clarkson’s latest hit
from her CD\, Stronger\, describes the hidden values of all three gems.\n
 •	This company may not be Number 1\, but there’s no hiding it’s amon

DESCRIPTION:Speaker\, Dr. Shelley Prevost\nDirector of Happiness & Residen
t Cultural Engineer at Lamp Post Group\n\nThis past November\, I had the c
hance to visit Zappos headquarters in Vegas\, an online shoe retailer. The
last night of the trip\, I had the chance to meet Tony Hsieh\, their famo
usly happy CEO.\n\nHe told me\, "Happiness is our business model. We belie
ve that making our employees happy is our most important job. If they're h
appy\, then they'll turn around and make our customers happy. Our mission
is to deliver happiness. We just happen to sell shoes."\n\nHsieh is very c
lear about his WHY. What he does matters very little. If it weren't shoes\
, he would be doing something else to fulfill hi mission and vision - to s
pread happiness. \n\nMost businesses earn a loyal customer base by telling
people what their company does and then convincing people\, via sales tec
hniques or marketing strategies\, to use their product or service. The vas
t majority of businesses make appeals to our rational brains by trying to
sell us on data\, features\, or price points.\n\nPractical? Yes. But\, har
dly inspiring. And\, certainly\, not the best way to galvanize masses of p
eople to become loyal customers. \n\nSuccessful businesses know this - Peo
ple don't buy what you do. They buy why you do it.\n\nIn order to communic
ate your values and beliefs\, you have to first learn what they are. In th
is workshop\, you will grapple with the question\, "Why does my business e
xist?" This simple question prompts you to momentarily push aside your log
ic (and spreadsheets)\, dig deep into your personal values\, and build a c
ohesive story about your company that starts with Why. \n\nClass exercises
and discussion will help you discover your Why. Once discovered\, you wil
l then begin to build out how your business operates\, and what you offer
to customers or clients. Alignment between these elements creates authenti
city\, which breeds loyalty.\n\n***SPACING IS LIMITED!!***\nRSVP at the Fr

DESCRIPTION:Document Sets were introduced in SharePoint 2010 and provide a
n alternative to folders for managing content. At this meeting we’ll co
mpare and contrast the use of document sets and folders for typical busine
ss use cases. We'll also discuss some limitations of document sets and so
me things to be aware of when using document sets to manage content.\n\nWh

t makes a SharePoint 2010 upgrade so challenging?\n\nBecause critical ente
rprise content is everywhere\, many organizations have chosen SharePoint a
s the managed environment they use to store these information assets. As u
sers adopt the SharePoint platform and content starts to grow by leaps and
  bounds\, managing SharePoint “sprawl\,” storage needs\, migration\, a
nd data recovery becomes increasingly difficult.\n\nJoin CTS Consultant an

\nIn this Region of the country\, employers either feel the Union’s targ
et painted on their back\, or they are in danger of being caught napping b
y a union organizer. The AFL-CIO’s "Hire Local" campaign and the Carpent
ers Union "Shame On" banners were just the beginning. Pro Union groups ha
ve held public rallies in the area. It was reported that Bob King\, Presi
dent of the UAW\, was in Chattanooga in late November talking with sympath
etic employees.\n\nFor those employers who are asleep at the wheel\, it co
uld be the perfect storm. The Obama NLRB is moving forward with its pro-un
ion agenda. More aggressive investigations of unfair labor practice charge
s\; more findings that employers violated the NLRA\; more injunctions soug
ht to "protect" pro-union workers\; the newly approved "notice" to post in
your workplace advising employees of their right to form a union\; and\,
ultimately\, the quick NLRB elections. Are you ready for an election at
your facility if you received notice today?\n\nIn an unprecedented move on
Wednesday of this week\, the President recess appointed three new members
to the National Labor Relations Board. On December 31\, Craig Becker’s
term expired\, leaving the Board with only two members and unable to issu
e any case decisions or rules. Two of the new members\, Sharon Block and
Richard Griffin\, were both nominated only a few short weeks ago\, but the
Senate has yet to fully consider these nominees through the normal Senate
procedure at the appropriate committee or before the full Senate. Terence
Flynn (a Republican nominee) was nominated a year ago to fill the remaini
ng Republican slot on the Board and while his nomination has been consider
ed over the past year\, his nomination has been tied up for other politica
l reasons. \n\nUnder the Constitution\, the President can exercise the rec
ess appointment authority for those individuals already nominated\, but ha
ve yet to be confirmed\, when the Congress is in what is called a “reces
s” period. There is a question however\, as to whether the Senate was a
ctually in a recess period Wednesday when the President made these appoint
ments.\n\nJoin us on Thursday morning\, February 2nd\; to learn more about
the changes that the Obama NLRB is making and the steps you need to take
now\, before you come under attack by union organizers. Let’s make sure
we are aware of how the changes really effect our organizations and what w
e need to do to be ready for a quick election.

what UTM is?\n\nIDC identifies Unified Threat Management as a security pra
ctice that unifies and integrates multiple security features onto a single
hardware platform. Qualification for inclusion within this category requi
res network firewall capabilities\, network intrusion detection and preven
tion (IDP)\, and gateway anti-virus (AV) functionality. All of these secur
ity features do not need to be utilized concurrently\, but need to exist i
n the product.\n \nIn fact\, larger enterprises and service providers offe
ring managed security service offerings vary their use of the seven differ
ent Fortinet FortiGate antivirus firewall capabilities in their networks.
Winxnet attributes the rapid market adoption of UTM security appliances to
the fact that the rise in blended threats requires a greater breadth of i
ntegrated functionality and deployment flexibility.\n\nExciting Give-Away:
